New Hobby???

What is Karissa sitting in you ask? Why nothing else than a wheelbarrow full of pigeon food. Pa mixes two kinds of seeds together to make it just the way the birdies like it. But this is Pa's hobby, right?
Not any more! Since Pa built a HUGE walk-in loft officially named "Pa's Pigeon Palace" by Grams, he wanted to get rid of his first loft which was way too small for his growing flock. So Pa has secretly been hatching pigeons for the Becker Boy's Birthday.
On Blake's birthday while he was at school the loft and birds made their trek across Davis County.

Check out the fancy ribbon, fabric, and lettering on the loft. Plain white just wouldn't do, I had to add a women's touch.

Since they are homing pigeons we had to let them stay in the loft for at least a week or two. I COULD NOT WAIT. So I took the risk and let them out at the one week mark. I found myself a nice shady spot in the yard and sat, and sat, and sat as the baby pigeons slowly decided to come out in the "wild".

Brooke, Seth, and Karissa also love that I now sit in the shade down by the play set instead of the patio.

NOT OUR BIRD. You'd be amazed at just how many different birds fly around. Up until the pigeons, our favorites were the doves that enjoy coming to our waterfall for their evening drink. Huge crows also love to fly around the hood. John's favorite at the moment is a little, light green hummingbird that likes our pine tree.

Aren't they cute!?!? The one on the far left we named D.D. (short for dare devil). He has tried everything first. First out of the loft, first to hop up onto the roof, and first to take to the air. And the only one to "dare" being gone 5 days before returning home.

While spending hours at a time watching the pigeons, one gets thirsty...so thanks Diann for the never ending supply of Route 44s. So, my new found hobby is bird watching. It is great because it fits perfectly with my full-time job...kid watching. :)
