Baby Steps...

Sometime in March a good friend and I decided to start walking on the treadmills we have in our basement. We'd meet every morning and walk. One day we tried to run for a couple of minutes and it KICKED our BUTTS!!! It was at that moment that reality hit and we decided we WOULD be able to run without dying. We started the Couch to 5K training and as soon as the weather got warm enough we hit the open roads. After many mornings of thinking we may die....it did eventually get easier and easier. To make sure we were committed, my favorite running friend signed us up for two 5Ks. Yes, you read correctly, not just one, but two! Our first one was the morning of John's birthday. It just happened to be Syracuse City's Heritage Days. So we got up that morning, and nervously ran our first ever 5K!!!! Aside from wishing the water stop was not so far from the start, we did meet our goal (running the entire way) and actually exceeded it (cut a few minutes off our personal best)! Note to self: No matter how tired and thirsty you are, do not dump water into your mouth faster than you can swallow.....or you'll look like this! After the race, our husbands went and picked-up bagels and juice while we got ready for the day. We met our families back on the parade route for some serious waving and candy catching.
Blake always has been the best parade waver of the bunch....hence he usually comes home with the biggest bag of taffy.
Go get it Brooklet! If you don't, that family to the left of you will. Thanks Kristin for making sure that overly aggressive dad stayed in his own "parade spot"!
Karissa was soooooooooo funny. She never did put a single piece of candy in her bag. She would pick one up, bring it to John or me to open, eat it, and then go back for more. She didn't even watch the parade much. She'd just play around behind the chairs until she wanted another "treat from the street".And the funniest part.......if she did not like the flavor of taffy that she picked up, she would take it out of her mouth walk back out to the street and chuck it right back to where she got it....at the parade. Too funny.

He he! When I started looking at the parade pictures, the first thing I noticed was the MEAN guy in the green shirt. Who knew the city parade could get so hostile?! That was a fabulous day - lots of fun memories! So glad John was game enough to let US plan the way he spent the majority of his birthday ;)
